  2. As we enter an election year, do you anticipate navigating challenging conversations with students, parents, and other stakeholders?

In this half-day workshop, school and district administrators will:

  1. Experience Facing History's approach to professional learning.
  2. See examples of how Facing History integrates intellectual rigor, emotional engagement, and ethical reflection to support the growth and development of adolescent learners and improve student outcomes.
  3. Discuss the use of Facing History strategies and pedagogy to promote democratic learning environments that allow students to grapple with complex histories and choices.
  4. Build shared understanding with colleagues of how Facing History could help meet their school or district's goals.

Independent evaluation has shown that implementing Facing History’s approach improves students’ higher-order thinking skills, increases students’ civic efficacy and engagement with civic matters, and increases students’ tolerance for others who hold contrary views.

Immediately following the session, participants are invited to join the educator(s) from their school/District for lunch provided by Facing History and the afternoon keynote scholar session with Dr. Rebecca Erbelding, a historian of American responses to the Holocaust and the author of Rescue Board: The Untold Story of America’s Efforts to Save the Jews of Europe, which won the National Jewish Book Award for Writing Based on Archival Material. She served as a historical advisor and an on-camera expert in Ken Burns’ The U.S. and the Holocaust, and is an educator and historian at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

You are invited to attend this session at the recommendation of an educator in your school/District who attended Facing History’s Teaching Holocaust and Human Behavior this summer in Nashville, TN. Our hope is, following this session, you will continue to share your learnings around Facing History’s approach, content, and pedagogy to discuss ways to enhance learning experiences for students and educators you work with.

Cost: The $200 fee for this workshop has been waived thanks to generous funding from Facing History & Ourselves donors and partner organizations.

Certificate of Completion

At the conclusion of viewing the webinar, participants can download a Certificate of Completion for one hour of attendance. Certificates may be submitted for a school’s or district’s approval towards professional development credits. Requirements for professional development credits vary by state. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of their school, organization, and/or state.
