About Us

Facing History and Ourselves uses lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate. Our classroom resources and professional development offerings examine racism, antisemitism, and prejudice at pivotal moments in history and in our world today.

In classrooms across the country and around the world, more than 400,000 educators are using our approach and materials to help students learn about the impact of choices made in the past, and connect them to the choices they will confront in their own lives. Facing our shared history and how it informs our attitudes and behaviors allows us to build a world of equity and justice.

Our Impact

Third-party researchers from universities and independent research firms have rigorously documented Facing History’s effectiveness since its inception in 1976.

  • Facing History students are 94% more likely than other students to report that their class motivated them to learn.
  • 99% of teachers surveyed would recommend Facing History professional development to their colleagues.
  • 92% of Facing History teachers agree that Facing History helps their students stand up for what they believe even when others disagree.
